Natural Family Treasure Hunt for all ages

Image description

How skilled a nature detective are you?

Join us to hunt down the natural treasures of Romsey Town Centre.

This is the ideal free family activity for the long school holiday. Nature is fighting to hold on in the streets of Romsey. Can you use your detection skills to find signs of Natural Romsey? Put "bit.ly/rdstreasure" into the web browser on you phone or scan the QR code to follow the trail around the town centre and pick up points. Any score above 20 makes you a "Super Nature Detective".

Dr Robert (Bob) Page

Image description

Members will be sorry to hear that Dr Bob Page passed away, peacefully and surrounded by his family, on July 11th.

Bob was chairman of the Natural Environment Committee from 2008 until 2011, when he stepped down due to ill health. Before his retirement he was for over 20 years the Chief Executive Officer of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and was fundamental in enabling the Trust to grow into the charity it is today. He oversaw many key purchases and leases of land and was a driving force for so many of the Trust environmental policies.

For us, the Natural Environment Committee of RDS, we are grateful not only for his chairmanship in the early days of the committee. He was a prime mover in getting Fishlake Meadows into management as a nature reserve, and was also one of the volunteers at the reserve.  A supremely knowledgeable botanist, he was always ready to help with identifying unusual plants, and only last year he helped lead a summer walk looking at the flowers in the Meadows.

He will be sadly missed by us all.
