Listen to "Art, Histoire et Numérique"!

During the 10th edition of Nantes Digital Week on September 20, 2023, Pop' Média hosted a conversation between artists – including Magalie Mobetie and the collective On a slamé sur la Lune –, coordinator of the scientific component of MANIFEST Patricia Beauchampe-Afadé, and historian Yann Lignereux.

This roundtable was born from the collaboration between Les Anneaux de la Mémoire and the Maison de l'Europe in Nantes. The group gathered to emphasize and illustrate how integrating arts and digital technology within historical narratives can enhance public awareness, unveil truths, and foster a shift in perspectives regarding past and contemporary societies.

Black History Month: a wrap-up

Image description

Throughout the entirety of February, MANIFEST celebrated Black History Month, an observance established by the United States and recognised globally each year. During this period, we paid homage to and reflected on the accomplishments and heritage of Afrodescendants.

With the overarching objective of empowering the present, we drew inspiration from the past, fostering a collective commitment to equality, justice, and progress. The primary focus of this Black History Month centred on African Americans and their contributions to the arts, delving into the diverse history and experiences of Black American artists and artisans.

By soliciting recommendations from our followers, we inaugurated the four-week series "Icons Unveiled," with the main aim of spotlighting influential African American figures who have profoundly impacted our community.

Throughout this journey featuring inspiring poets, dancers, musicians, and choreographers, we explored the significant influence of Black art across visual and performing disciplines, literature, architecture, fashion, folklore, film, music, and all facets of culture. Our goal was to raise awareness and foster appreciation for the rich tapestry of Black artistic expression.

As Black History Month draws to a close, we remain steadfast in our commitment to continue celebrating Black art.
Let us carry the spirit of this month forward, honouring the past while building a brighter future together!
