A refreshing break during your walks

Last call before it's too hot to go hiking! If you start early enough, it'll feel good to cool your feet or even take a dip. Here are some paths where you can do just that.

A 4.7 km circular route departing from Alvor (Portimão). The river, estuary, dunes and marsh are places of fragile balance but with a huge wealth of animals and plants. Don't miss the opportunity to go for a swim when you pass the beach.

This route is an immersion in the beautiful and diverse landscapes of the parish of Alte (Loulé). The Alte fountains are an excellent place to stop and cool off.

A circular route with a shorter version (13.7 km) and a longer one (18.2 km). After the village of Raposeira, near Vila do Bispo, we run through the rugged beauty of valleys, streams and cliffs. The route passes the beaches of Barranco and Zavial.

This 10.3 kilometre circular trail on the outskirts of Monchique takes you through dense, cool woods, past old mills, monumental trees and the Seixe stream. Here you can stop, have a picnic and test the temperature of the cool mountain waters.

This is a mostly urban route. Lagos is one of the historic cities of the Algarve and of the Discoveries Age. You'll discover its heritage, walking through old streets, walls and monuments, but you'll also pass by some of the region's best-known beaches.

Summer has come - it's time to give your hiking boots a rest

Image description

The heat and the high risk of wild fires make summer an inadvisable time for hiking. Don't forget: most of the Via Algarviana routes have little shade. This is also the time of year when the landscape is least interesting. If you don't want to stop hiking altogether:

  • Choose shorter walking paths
  • Always check the wildfire risk at IPMA's website
  • Start very early or at the end of the day
  • Use clothes that protect you from the sun, a wide-brimmed hat and sunscreen
  • Take more water than usual

We were at the Vamos à Vila fair (Monchique) and at EcológiTa (Tavira).

From July 25 to 28 we'll be at the Feira da Serra, in S. Brás de Alportel. Save the date! Visit this lovely town and say hello to us at the Almargem stand! We'll be happy to inform you of all our hiking routes.

Sustainable development

Via Algarviana has always been a project based on the idea of sustainability. On this page we explain our commitment to the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.
