Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Parent Night with Lisa Honold! We’re so grateful to Lisa for closing out our HTP + D102 Tech Education Series with such a practical, engaging, and relevant presentation.
In addition to her parent presentation, Lisa spent time with our 3rd–8th grade students across D102 this week, sharing important lessons in an age-appropriate and engaging way. Students learned:
The average American checks their phone 186 times per day—about every 5 minutes
There’s no such thing as a truly private message—texts and DMs can easily be shared
Important conversations are best had in person, where tone and intent are clear
No smart devices in the bedroom—this is critical for sleep and well-being
Best practices like avoiding screens for 30 minutes after waking and before bed
For older students: the serious risks of sexting and sextortion, including legal consequences
Lisa also made a special visit to an Ogden 2nd grade class to share her soon-to-be-released book, Maya Learns to be Safe Online (And You Can, Too!)
During Parent Night, Lisa built on these themes and offered practical strategies families can use right away. Key takeaways included:
Keeping devices out of bedrooms is an absolute must! Watch This video to understand WHY!
Using tools like Bark as a way to start conversations, not just monitor behavior
Remembering that as parents, we can reset rules at any time—“when we know better, we do better”
If you weren’t able to attend—or want to revisit what was shared—Lisa created a dedicated website for D102 families with helpful resources. There, you can:

We hope this series has sparked meaningful conversations at home and given you tools to navigate technology with more confidence.
Thank you for being part of this important work with us!
