Data from Femili PNG's First Decade |
Recently, Femili PNG launched two reports authored by Professor Stephen Howes and Estelle Stambolie from ANU's Development Policy Centre. |
The first report, Survivor Data from Femili PNG’s First Decade, draws on data from over 7,000 survivors admitted as clients since 2014. It reveals that Femili PNG’s assistance has reached over 20,000 individuals (including dependents), with monthly intakes now triple what they were a decade ago. The report highlights key trends, such as the increasing number of walk-in clients and the critical role of safe houses, legal assistance, and emergency services in addressing survivors’ needs. It also identifies challenges, such as the need to reduce processing times for Interim Protection Orders. |
The second report, Feedback from Survivors: 2021-23, provides valuable insights from client feedback surveys conducted over the past three years. Survivors consistently expressed high satisfaction with Femili PNG’s services, particularly in relation to relocations and protection orders. The report also highlights opportunities for growth, such as better support for children in safe houses and efforts to make the feedback process more inclusive and representative of the broader client base. |

For years, Rayleen faced escalating abuse from her husband, Willy, which left her living in fear for her safety and that of her two children. Seeking help through the Family and Sexual Violence Unit (FSVU) and Femili PNG, she worked with her caseworker to secure an Interim Protection Order (IPO), safe accommodation, and medical care for a serious health condition. Recognising the need for a supportive environment, Rayleen chose to return to her family. With Femili PNG’s assistance, she was safely repatriated and warmly welcomed by her loved ones. Femili PNG also provided a business startup kit to support her financial independence. Today, Rayleen is safe, recovering, and surrounded by the care she needs. |
