On 18 February 2026, the 115th anniversary of the historic 1911 Allahabad–Naini flight was commemorated in Prayagraj, celebrating India’s landmark role in the world’s first official aerial post. At a special gathering hosted by El Chico for members of the Eastern U.P. Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the remarkable journey of this pioneering flight was revisited, highlighting the city’s rich postal heritage and enduring legacy.
The commemoration included the release of a limited-edition commemorative fridge magnet under the Chaaya Smriti brand, a special postcard by the Prayag Philatelic Society, the unveiling of a custom-designed poster at El Chico, and a themed cake honouring the iconic 1911 postmark. The event reflected a strong spirit of collaboration in preserving and promoting our shared history. |

On the occasion of World Air Mail Day (18 February 2026), a special feature written by Jemima Raman for Press Trust of India was widely published in major national newspapers including Economic Times, New Indian Express, Hindustan Times, and several others across India.
The article highlighted the historic 13-minute flight of 18 February 1911 from Allahabad to Naini, marking the world’s first official airmail by airplane and positioning India as the “Ground Zero” of global airmail. It featured insights from Mr. Piyush Khaitan on the rare Black Cachet covers, the first known underpaid airmail cover, and the continued global significance of the 1911 flight in aerophilately.
A one-minute video clip of Mr. Khaitan’s interview was also released alongside the coverage and visit website to read the article |
