With our Kulm Annual issue mailing now well underway, we just wanted to share what's going on the rest of this year, plus news of a special offer further below. |

The 2024 Annual is Open for Pre-Orders |
King Edward the Confessor of England did not prepare well for his death, to avoid trouble he promised his kingdom to King Magnus Olafsson of Norway (a claim inherited by Harald Hardrada), King Sweyn Estridsson of Denmark, Duke William of Normandy, and Earl Harold Godwinson of Wessex. When Edward died on the fifth day of January 1066 these four powerful warlords raised armies to back their claims by force. William the Conqueror won the crown but had to defend his new kingdom from fresh invasions and rebellious barons. To formalize his control of the kingdom after twenty years of conquest he ordered a Great Survey in 1085, a record so final and unalterable that it was named DOMESDAY. |
DOMESDAY - The Norman Conquest 1066-1106 is a card driven game depicting the Norman Conquest of England from 1066 to 1106. The players control Normans, Barons, English, Danes, Norse, Scots, Welsh, and Irish, playing cards to resolve Events or use Action Points to activate their units. Players win by earning the most victory points through controlling, contesting, or plundering areas, building cathedrals and towers, and making their leader the King of England. Designed by Philip Jelley (ROME, INC, ROME, IInc), the game comes with a full color, 22" x 34" map board, 108 playing cards and 264 colorful, die-cut counters, plus rules, charts and everything you need. A multi-player design, DOMESDAY can be played by just 2, but plays best with 3 or more. Be sure to check out all the extras included with this issue when you buy it from us by clicking on the image above or here. |

Next: ATO #63 With Trying Men's Souls |
Also now open for pre-orders is ATO issue #63 with Trying Men's Souls by designer Paul Rohrbaugh inside. In early 1776, King George III convinced hardliners in Parliament to raise a massive army and fleet that would bring the colonists to heel and end the rebellion. During July a British fleet of over 400 ships, including 73 warships, arrived in New York harbor and disgorged its troops to initially occupy undefended Staten Island. In August, the fleet ferried over 32,000 men onto the shores of Long Island. Opposing them was the largest American army ever assembled with 23,000 men under the command of General George Washington. |
Washington took a bold gamble by defending on Long Island. Hoping to replicate what happened in Boston on a larger scale by defending the Gowanus Heights and fortifying those about Brooklyn, as well as constructing numerous obstructions in the Hudson and East Rivers, he thought the British would incur such high losses in taking the American defenses that an assault on Manhattan would be impossible. However, the British had also learned from what had happened in Boston and would make use of the many loyalists’ knowledge and sentiments in and around New York in their efforts to bring the rebels to heel. And About That Special Offer |
It looks like after all the Kulm issues have mailed, we will have (just) a few copies leftover of the 1814 - End of Empire game that was in the Kickstarter edition of the game. Pretty fast playing with just 16 counters, it explores one of Napoleon's finest campaigns against overwhelming odds and is a delight to play. It's not worthwhile to try and code, test and debug a separate webpage just to sell this item so we're making it a freebie while supplies last. So, spend $100.00 or more at the ATO website write "1814" in the comments field, and we'll tuck a copy in your package going out. Otherwise there's no special promotion codes to enter or apply. First come, first served, and any previous orders you have in with us are excluded. |
OK, that wraps up this newsgram. Watch for more news on Tiger Wings above in the next one!
