In the panorama of professions that work in the care and prevention of people's health, as defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not simply the absence of disease or infirmity”, the Feldenkrais Method offers a way of working where movement and the search for better motor functions are the main vehicles for stimulating the Central Nervous System and activating broader processes in the individual.
The peculiarity of such work, which aims at the heart of the individual's capacity to evolve, lends it to easily interface with other types of approaches, from health and therapeutic to the more academic, sporting and artistic, playing a valuable reinforcing and complementary role.
But to what extent does the current Feldenkrais practitioner really manage to operate in an interdisciplinary manner and to unfold the potential of this method in its context?
How is this figure shaping up in Europe?
What are currently its strengths in its relationship with the person and with other professionals with whom it could potentially collaborate?
The Feldenkrais4Life project first launched an international survey of professionals working in Europe to understand better the profile of these professionals in the social, political, and economic landscape in which they operate.
During summer 2024, the survey collected 776 questionnaires from Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, and other Eastern and Central-Northern European countries. The processing of the results is nearing completion and its publication is imminent in the project channels.
