KENTISHTOWN VEG BOX

Spring is a great time to join us

Over 12 years ago, a group of passionate Kentish Town residents came together with a vision of offering a regenerative alternative to the mainstream food supply chain. And so Kentish Town Vegbox was born.

We may be small (~300 members), but we are mighty. By promoting and facilitating a seasonal, local, and sustainable diet, we are:

  • Reducing personal and systemic CO2 emissions through local sourcing and seasonal eating.
  • Supporting sustainable farming practices that protect biodiversity and regenerate the soil.
  • Paying farmers fairly – three times what supermarkets pay per pound spent – so they can thrive.
  • Strengthening our community by keeping profits local, offering a low income discount and reinvesting in the people who matter.
  • Empowering our members with weekly news and recipes from our supplying farms and sociable seasonal ‘bring a dish’ meetup meals.

Want to know more? The head over to www.vegbox.org.uk to find out how to join up.

POWER UP NORTH LONDON

Image description

PUNL is our local community energy generating and energy saving initiative that puts solar panels on the roofs of local schools, churches, sports centres and other community buildings and trains up local communities in energy saving know- how. It is run by volunteers, and the energy installations are paid for by small grass- roots local investors plus some grant funding. And it’s a BIG success!

PUNL needs new volunteers with skills and energy to help grow this innovative community energy project.

Image description

As word of its successes spread PUNL needs more volunteers to enable it to meet new opportunities; and to help more community organisations become part of the renewable energy revolution. In particular, PUNL is currently looking for people with skills for the following VOLUNTEER jobs:

  • Volunteer Director – Treasurer
  • Volunteer Engineering Director
  • Legal Agreements volunteer
  • Grant Applications volunteer
  • Web Design volunteer
  • Community Engagement volunteer

Those already involved tell us that working with PUNL is sociable and fun as well as rewarding and good for their CV. So why not find out if this could be something for you at: www.powerupnorthlondon.org/vacancies/.

COMMUNITY GARDENS

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR SPRING & SUMMER WATERING
TKT has helped to create many beautiful gardens around Kentish Town that have gone on to be managed by local volunteers in Health Centres, schools and housing estates. We’re also continuing to develop and manage the Cottage Garden on Platform 1 of Kentish Town Thameslink Station and the ‘Greening Our Footprint Garden’ on the forecourt of Kentish Town Fire Station.

These are both container and raised bed based gardens that require regular spring and summer watering to keep them bringing pollen and nectar to local pollinators - and joy to local hearts. Which is where seasonal watering volunteers come in. For H&S reasons both involve watering from cans filled at a tap or water butt, rather than by using a hose, so you do need to be capable of carrying cans of water from one growing bed to another. Usually a couple of times a week for about 30 minutes. But it's very satisfying work. So if this could be you, please contact our Community Gardens Watering Co-ordinator, Ian Grant at: [email protected].
