| GET READY FOR THE CHALLENGE A FEDERAL REVIEW OF THE NWMO'S PROJECT IS STARTING SOON
The Nuclear Waste Management Organization has a plan to transport then process, bury and abandon all of Canada's high-level nuclear waste at the Revell site in the headwaters of the Wabigoon River and the heart of Treaty 3 territory in northwestern Ontario. For 20 years the NWMO has been describing transportation as part of their "APM" project, but in August they let slip that they are moving to exclude transportation from the impact assessment, which is expected to get underway later this year or in early 2026. The federal review is starting soon. Take action now. |

HERE ARE THREE THINGS YOU CAN DO TODAY TO GET READY FOR 2026 |
Sign up to get a notice when the federal review gets underway. Send an email to the Impact Assessment Agency asking to be added to their list for notices about the NWMO project review [Ref Number 88774]. The comment period hasn't started, but let them know now what you are concerned about: transportation, water, safety, etc. Here's a sample message: "Please add me to the notice list for the review of the NWMO's DGR project (#88774). I am concerned about [insert your top concern]. Thank you." |
Send a message to the Prime Minister and federal cabinet members Use our messaging tool to send a letter to the Prime Minister, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change and the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. Let them know you are concerned about the NWMO's project and insist that there be a full federal review, including transportation. |
Send a message to your Member of Parliament Use our messaging tool to send a letter to your Member of Parliament. Let them know you are concerned about the NWMO's project and insist that there be a full federal review, including transportation. |

In July We the Nuclear Free North produced 3 short "explainer" videos to provide background, context and analysis for the NWMO's false start to the federal review. |

| So what did NWMO have to say for itself in their "engagement" sessions this summer? |

| We the Nuclear Free North is an alliance of people and groups opposing a Deep Geological Repository for nuclear waste in Northern Ontario. We oppose the transport, burial and abandonment of this radioactive waste in our northern watersheds. Our alliance is honoured to have received the name Tataganobin: looking far ahead into the future. Learn more about who we are, and the origin and meaning of this name.
