NYC independent home label

Hi, everyone! Here in NYC, winter begrudgingly refuses to relinquish its icy grip upon us, but as our ever-optimistic high school swim coach used to say - “Spring is just around the corner, guys!” Indeed, as the Solstice is upon us, let’s go with that. And while we’re at, let’s roll out the latest edition of The Slugg

Records Newsletter. Ready?

On Max Reinhardt's

In January, Michael was once again the guest of the legendary Max Reinhardt (BBC 3 “Late Junction” founder), this time on his monthly show for London’s Morley Radio. Max reached out in part to get Michael’s take on the state of the US during the dark days in Minneapolis and around the rest of the country and also, of course, to chat about and actually preview a demo or two from the new upcoming Bipolar Explorer album, the band’s 13th. Hear the show in it’s entirety here, including the part where Michael blurts out the, until-then-unknown, title of the new album! More on that below…

LAST LIGHTS

Well, the cat’s out of the bag, now. The new Bipolar Explorer album is called Last Lights. Another double-album, their 6th double - the group is still at work on final mixes and fixes but hope to deliver the record for mastering in April with the release date made official sometime soon after. Meantime, we can share the cover image with you - you saw it here first, friends! It’s a lovely, evocative painting - “Nocturne au Parc Royal de Bruxelles” (1897) by William Degouve De Nuncques - the band first saw hanging at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris sometime ago. Much more on all this later. Stay tuned!

Q&A: Tremosphere's discography

Noted music blogger Florgoth, a fervent advocate of Tremosphere’s work, decided to do an in depth look at the group’s entire catalog and began a series of conversations with Sylvia last month. In a detailed Q&A series that was published daily on Bluesky, they discuss each track wending their way from the

group’s debut single through their first several albums. The series will continue soon but in the meantime you can read the first half of it in its entirety, here.

Black_ops Playlist

Musician and radio show host black_ops recently selected a Tremosphere track to be featured in his new HearThis playlist, “Sounds of Seduction” (ooh la la!). Tremosphere’s cover of Depeche Mode’s “Little 15” remixed by Blessed are the Hearts that Bend is among the offerings, which also includes work from Heavy Cloud and Martina Bertoni. Thank you so much, black_ops!

Real Real Gone

Mentioned both in our last newsletter and by Max Reinhardt in his interview is the new recording of Michael’s one-act play Real Real Gone. Adapted for radio and voiced by the author himself, Slugg Records released the recording as the inaugural offering on the label’s new Bandcamp page. Find it here.

We should add that it’s not exactly FCC friendly - as our friends both at London’s Morley Radio and California’s KFJC, although highly complimentary, were quick to point out. So, um, parental advisory, we guess?

CAMP Show

Finally, Bipolar Explorer’s “The Other Room” continues its 4th (or is it the 5th?!) season on France’s CAMP Radio. Airing every other Tuesday (and archived on MixCloud shortly after broadcast for on- demand listening), it’s a fortnightly hour of experimental, drone and ambient music, field recordings, spoken word, and a dash of dark pop, blended into sixty minute soundscapes. Tune in! And you can find all previous editions (86 of them, at present) on the show’s website https://www.bipolarexplorer-the-other-room.sluggrecords.com/
