OCTOBER 2025 NEWSLETTER

This fall marks one year since Hurricane Helene. Remembering that time is a reminder of our strength: how neighbors helped neighbors, how we rebuilt, and how we kept moving forward. In a year when the political landscape feels heavy and overwhelming, we can draw hope from that same resilience. Read on below to see how folks are continuing to show up and opportunities to do that yourself next month!

Visioning for Democracy – Add Your Voice by October 31st!

Cindy Ballaro, a Henderson County resident, has created a grassroots project called Visioning for Democracy that invites people to imagine the future we want to see. Phase One is a short survey designed to identify common themes that will inform Phase Two: the creation of collective vision boards that reflect our shared hopes.

Please take a few minutes to share your voice by October 31st! https://forms.gle/VLhGaxMTA21gcn5h9

    4th Amendment Workplace Training

    Image description

Thanks to all of the volunteers who joined us for our 4th Amendment workplace canvassing day on Saturday September 27th. Despite downpours, teams hit the streets to tell businesses about the 4th Amendment Workplace program. If you'd like to help us reach businesses to share how federal agents have been carrying out unconstitutional searches and seizures, and the simple steps they can take to stand up for workers, customers, and their own rights, let us know. Email Andy at [email protected] to get involved! Here is a photo, post canvassing,  of some volunteers supporting the small businesses we are recruiting to become 4th Amendment Workplaces!

    THE WRITE STUFF

    ANGELA GIPSON & DAVID HINTZ

    MARLEY’S CHAIN

    by Betsy Alger

    Image description

These talented multi-instrumentalists and vocalists from the local singer-songwriter duo Marley's Chain perform an eclectic mix of covers and original songs all around the area.

They’re sharing their voices to raise political awareness and have been part of The Sing Out the Vote and the No Kings rally. We encourage you to check out their Facebook page for upcoming events.

Angela was born in Philadelphia to Italian-Americans and grew up in New Jersey. Her mother was born in Roseto degli Abruzzi, Italy and became a citizen after coming through Ellis Island at 18. Angela graduated in 1976 from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, an all-male college until 1971. She stayed in the NJ/Philly area until 1979 before moving to Michigan for 35 years, as well as SW Florida, and NC. She's well traveled throughout the USA and has visited Italy.

David's dad was Deputy Director of the Peace Corps under President Kennedy, so David was born in Germany and then moved to Italy. The family moved back to the US (Milwaukee) until he was eight, then lived in West Africa and the Philippines until he was 12, before heading to the DC area. He attended high school in Potomac, MD. David has traveled to all 50 states and was able to see a great deal of the world during his childhood travels.

Angela always loved animals and as a child wanted to "do anything related to their well-being." She has held a wide variety of jobs including customer service/marketing, freelance business consulting, graphic design; and is a Master Gardener, published author, and musician. Her hobbies include growing musically, gardening, reading, vegan cooking, yoga, running, and biking. She’s most proud of Community Cats of Bonita Springs, FL, a 501c3 non-profit she co-founded in 2017 to address the huge feral/outdoor cat overpopulation in the area. They've fixed over 5000 street cats and have found homes for hundreds more.

Angela is passionate about maintaining freedom, particularly immigration and women's rights.

David wanted to be a writer as a child and he's had a variety of jobs: mechanic, real estate broker, affordable housing builder, and musician. His hobbies are repairing stringed instruments, songwriting, and performing music. He’s most passionate about the issue of Equality – racial, gender, religious, etc. He once wrote a song called "Equality" for a song contest and it came in 3rd!

David and Angela were together in 2022 when he started exploring this area and bought a little place. They were snowbirds between here and Bonita Springs before fully moving here in 2024.

They became involved with PAHC through their good fellow-Floridian friend Annie Wenz. They believe that PAHC should help "rebuild the Democratic Party at the local level (and) help redefine and reconnect with the core values and needs of everyday working people. Both are very happy they "landed in this blue dot with so many like-minded, thoughtful, tolerant people."
