Ethics Study Day - Concupiscence
Matthew continues to teach study days on the somewhat controversial doctrine of concupiscence (the 'disordered state of all our appetites', as Bavinck explained it).
Concupiscence affects all areas of life and is obviously bigger than the issue of same-sex temptation (surely a better label than same-sex 'attraction'), but a right understanding of it is vital for what pastors believe and teach on that subject - to the blessing or harm of the flock in their charge. Watch a video introduction by clicking one of the links below. The day is booked for:
Ferndown (3rd April)
Cheltenham (TBC May)
Leamington Spa (30 Sept)
If you would like to find out more about hosting this study day in your area, please get in touch.
'God's Pressure Valve'
I also continue to teach a Study Day on the theology and practice of lament in the church. It includes a case for lamentation in the life of the church, reflection on the nature and purpose of lamenting, exegesis of Matthew 5:4 and Psalm 77, and then a walk through a lament service, which we pray together. As well as being a chance to reflect on lamenting, it is also a chance to do it. This term it is booked for:
Bradford-on-Avon (19th March)
If you would like to find out more about hosting this study day in your area, please get in touch.
ThM and Study Projects
If you are looking for a way to pursue deeper theological study alongside your ministry, then do consider the ThM we offer with Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. There is more information and video interviews with current students here. If you have questions about the ThM, do get in touch.
From 1st - 4th July, Matthew Mason will be teaching a ThM course on 'Law in the Old Testament'. For more information about joining the programme or auditing the week, click here.
We continue to offer both Preaching Projects and tailor-made Study Projects (details here). Again, do get in touch if we can help.
Every blessing,
Garry Williams
