February Luncheon

February 16, 2026 - Guest Speaker - George Blumenthal, Candidate SC House of Representatives

George Blumenthal is the son of parents who served a combination of 20 years in the Maryland General Assembly. He learned first hand the machinations of law making. he was educated in government, politics, and economics prior to graduating law school. Over 40 years in the practice of law and 6 years on the staff of the Maryland State Insurance Commission, George is uniquely qualified to take on the issues affecting South Carolina, in particular to Horry County. We encourage all our members to join us at the February luncheon to hear George’s perspective and engage in an important conversation about the challenges facing our community and state.

Yesterday the House passed a package of six funding bills, ending the partial government shutdown and temporarily funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through February 13.

This vote buys time to negotiate a DHS funding bill that protects communities from two DHS agencies that have been terrorizing and brutalizing our communities: ICE and Border Patrol.

It's critical we use that time to put pressure on every Member of Congress -- especially Democrats -- to insist on real guardrails that put an end to ICE and CBP's lawless thuggery and get them out of our cities. We can't settle for insufficient reforms like body cams -- we've all seen that Trump's goons are perfectly happy to gas, tackle, and kill innocent people on film.

Whether or not you've already called or emailed: We need EVERYONE to be loud over the next nine days and make capitulation politically impossible.

At our February luncheon, each member will receive an ICE OUT pin as a small but meaningful symbol of the values that bring us together.

BREAKING

H.4760 Advances in the House

House Bill 4760 has passed Second Reading in the South Carolina House of Representatives and is moving toward Third Reading, after which it would advance to the South Carolina Senate. The bill raises serious concerns, including expanded criminal penalties related to abortion, potential criminal liability for women experiencing pregnancy loss, reclassification of abortion-related medication, and chilling effects on doctors and hospitals, further restricting access to women’s health care. VOICE will continue to monitor this legislation closely and keep members informed.
