| April 2025: Events • Future Events • Kickstarter • Books • Music |
After a very frantic March, April seems quiet in comparison, but there are still some excellent festivals and meets this month. Just one weekend festival (that we know about) this month, Steamers & Scallywags at the National Emergency Museum, Sheffield. This features Captain of the Lost Waves and The Cogkneys on Saturday and Madam Misfit and Kitten Von Mew on the Sunday. But not to fear, there are excellent one day events this month too: Steampunk Sunday at the National Waterways Museum, and Return to The Wye at Chepstow, with music from Jessica Law and the Outlaws during the day and then in the evening compère Major Blunder, Lady Violet Hugh and Rogora Khart. There are also a number of other events, gigs and meet-ups, so check out the full list below for the details of all the events we know about. |
Please check with the venue and event organisers before setting off or booking travel and accommodation. SteamPaper is an independent listings publication and is not affiliated with any event or organisation. All events we know about are listed free of charge. Apologies if your event has not been listed, but it's always best to email [email protected] with the event details to ensure a listing. (Listings are free.) |

The Misfit Squadron
A series of books reimagining a steampunk WWII |

| "The Second Great War is going poorly for the Kingdom of Britain - the British Isles are under siege and the only thing standing between the all-conquering Prussian army and victory is a thin strip of blue water and the gallant men and women of the Royal Aviator Corps." "Aviator Sergeant Gwen Stone is one of those women, but almost as soon as she begins her fight against the Prussian air force, Die Fliegertruppe, she is stripped of her wings and imprisoned in disgrace for illegally modifying her aircraft." "As the battle over the skies of Britain progresses and it looks like the Prussians are going to be as dominant in the air as they were on the fields of the continent, the hopes of the beleaguered nation come to rest firmly on the shoulders of Misfit Squadron, an elite group of pilots who don’t always pay strict attention to military discipline, and Gwen is given a chance to redeem herself by joining them." |
The Misfit Squadron series of books are written by Simon Brading – an actor, a voiceover artist, a black belt in various martial arts and an ex-ballet dancer!
If you like the first book, then there are a total of ten in the whole series, and you can find them on Amazon and other online book shops in paperback and Kindle format. |

| Recently released, Silk And Filth is the latest album from Sunday Driver. It's been three years since the last album, and I for one, was eagerly awaiting this release. |
| |
| And…it does not disappoint. It is a wonderful mix of complex, layered, melodic songs that are both unique and easy to enjoy.
This seems to me to be a more sophisticated Sunday Driver with beautiful tracks like Devils, edgier tracks like The Death of John Company, haunting instrumentals (Malice Scourge) and wonderful upbeat tracks like Bank Job and Les Amoureuses. There's even a bit of reggae influence in there! Thoroughly recommended. |
Available in a variety of formats including orange or blue vinyl, Silk And Filth is available from Trapped Animal Records. |
