Due to the nature of carving stone, it has to be done outside! The amount of dust and chips from the marble is immense. During winter months and cold weather my time to carve outside is limited - and so I work on other artworks INSIDE the studio. However with the springtime in full swing, I am back outside carving on the second of four statues for a Church in TX. My favorite part is seeing the beautiful veining in the marble start to show itself as I get closer to the finished figure.

So what really happened this winter? Now that the final sculptor has been chosen, I can publish my own proposal for the David Crockett statue! I received an email from the State of TN asking me to submit a proposal for the project in November last year (along with other sculptors nationwide.) While it was too cold to work outside, I worked on this proposal. Though not chosen, I was ranked #8 in the list, and seeing the sculptor's names that I stood 'in shoulder' with, I was very honored to be among such talented artists! When the state responded it was 'an unenviable task' to choose among the the top ten - I believe it. If you are interested in seeing the sculpture I created and proposed Click Here.

Our family went to Ireland this spring for ten days touring historic places and churches! We enjoyed seeing so much beauty and because of the marble carving I had been working on since last fall - I had an even greater appreciation and interest in the stone sculptures!
