60% of South Africa’s fuel is imported, according to industry analysis. We’re leveraging the Electric Vehicle (EV) revolution to replace fuel with locally harvested sunlight. Every 3 kWh of energy we generate and sell replaces a litre of petrol or diesel. That’s significant.
We have been served a massive opportunity on a glinting solar panel. An opportunity for South Africa as a nation, at an individual community level, to generate its own fuel.
The team at Zero Carbon Charge know South Africa. Our journey started with cofounders Joubert and Andries, two leaders with a vision of building a resilient, decentralised, energy future. While Andries began laying legal and strategic foundations, Joubert hopped in a car and drove across the country to understand and connect with the land and the people.
Today, our site originators continue that journey, meeting with farmers, families, and community leaders in towns that take a lot of zooming-in on Google Maps to spot. This is where the real opportunity lies.
These are the beautiful destinations that will produce clean power for eMobility, while also injecting true enterprise development into the local economies. Our ultra-fast, solar-powered charging stations and partnering farmstalls will draw EV drivers and tourists to the spots so often sped past.
Each padstal will be stocked with locally made products, create local jobs, and ease pressure on the existing power infrastructure by keeping EV charging completely off-grid.
This is a mission that starts with meeting communities face to face and putting rural South Africans at the centre of our energy future.
