Provincial Youth Overnight, 28–29 March

The next Provincial Youth Overnight Event is taking place in the stunning location of Kinlochleven, between Glencoe and Fort William, in the Diocese of Argyll and The Isles. The usual pattern of these events will be followed: fun, games, and creativity in the afternoon before preparing to help lead worship for Palm Sunday in the morning. All meals are provided and a non-residential option is available, too. Click the link below for more information and to register by 12 March.

Children's Mental Health Week

9–15 February is Place2Be's Children's Mental Health Week. This year's theme is 'This is my Place' which explores the feeling of belonging. Place2Be have produced resources for people caring for children at various ages and stages. Many are for schools, but there are also resources for families and communities, including top tips for families, and a creative activity from Place2Be's Art Room team.

Ideas and Printables for Valentine's Day

Out Upon the Waters has produced some free printable resources for Valentine's Day, plus a prayer practice to help children 'connect love with faith, prayer, and action':

  1. Pause: Hold a heart (paper or candy) and sit quietly for a moment.

  2. Name: Thank God for one way you have been loved this week.

  3. Ask: Pray for eyes to notice who might need love today.

  4. Send: Choose one small act of love to share, not to get something back, but because God loves us first.

Instead of giving something up, 40acts encourages you to give away time, encouragement, and other things, in order to discover the joy of walking in generosity. Keeping Safe and Happy Online

10 February is Safer Internet Day. Care for the Family are running a series of events called 'Left to Their Own Devices?' that explore how to raise tech-savvy kids. One of these events is on 20 May at Ps & Gs, Edinburgh from 7.30–10pm. It will cover:

  • What our children might be exposed to online, who they might be speaking to and how they behave

  • The teenage brain and why managing the online world is harder for them than for us 

  • Practical ways to keep your family safe online

  • Ways to keep up with a fast-changing industry

  • The impact social media is having on mental health

  • How parents can be role models.

The Pisky 18+ WhatsApp Community is a PYC initiative to help Yeek graduates and other 18–25s keep in touch with each other and with key Youth leaders. There are announcements of opportunities such as pilgrimages, and the chance to join different groups in the Community (e.g. your Diocese, Yeek 24 leavers). On Saturday 7 March, we will be holding a day for those who have been confirmed since January 2024. This will be a day to reflect, pray, learn, and share with others who have been confirmed (or re-affirmed faith) in the last couple of years.

beHeld: Youth and Children’s Ministry Training Days 2026

In 2026, all involved in youth and children's ministry are invited to a fresh series of training days at Ps & Gs Church called 'beHeld'. The first of these will be on 21 March. All beHeld events will be held on a Saturday morning, 9am–1pm, and there will be light refreshments, worship, and the chance to hear from experts on subjects like trauma-informed practice. beHeld costs £15 per session, but if you're involved in youth and children's ministry in the diocese we'll bear the cost of your ticket! Just email us at [email protected] with your name and charge, and we'll book you in for the 21 March session. Places are limited.

Each session will concentrate on a different aspect of Youth and Children's ministry. So make sure you have those dates in your diary!

The Provincial Enable Grant can be used to access up to £5000 in any one year. It aims to enable SEC congregations to develop new projects, or to support existing projects with an SEC connection, address increasing poverty amongst families in their community. More details are on the SEC website.
