You are invited! Cosy Streets Event

Thursday 12th March 7:15pm

@Thame Town Council hosted by Phoenix Energy Community

Homes in the UK have the worst insulation and are the leakiest in Western Europe*. This has a knock-on impact on comfort, quality of life and energy bills. That’s why we are hosting our Cosy Streets event on 12th March, to provide everyone living in Thame and surrounding villages with ideas about how to improve their homes: from cheap, quick and easy DIY fixes to more substantial interventions.

The event is being organised by Phoenix Energy Community and will showcase the results of an extensive thermal imaging street survey, which looked at more than 40 houses of every age and type in local streets in Thame (including streets in Lea Park), Haddenham, Long Crendon and Towersey. We will then be joined by local experts:

  • Geordie Stewart from Cosy Homes Oxfordshire, providing information about how to approach making homes of different ages and build types more comfortable and energy efficient

  • Dale Hoyland, Oxfordshire County Council retrofit lead, advising on the recently announced government Warm Homes Plan and grant funding available

  • EnergyMyWay will be talking about - and myth-busting - all things heat pumps (without the sales pitch)

  • and Bucks Community Energy/Cosy Thame will be sharing some top DIY energy efficiency tips.

Our goal for ‘Cosy Streets’ is that everyone will leave the event with at least one thing that they can action straight away in their own home.

Celebrating Our Local Sustainability Champions

On February 11, The Players Theatre on Nelson Street hosted the annual Thame Sustainability Champions Awards — an evening dedicated to celebrating the businesses helping to shape a greener future for our town.

The spotlight was on nine local businesses that have achieved Bronze level status in the awards, launched last year: ASM Auto Recycling, BOXTEC, Kubota, Lightfoots Solicitors, Logisnext UK Ltd, RHBR, Richardsons and Windles Group. Huge congratulations to these inspiring champions. Their commitment and hard work are making a real difference, and we’re delighted that they will now be progressing to the Silver level over the coming year.

Created and delivered by Thame Town Council in partnership with 21st Century Thame, the awards provide practical learning opportunities and encourage meaningful action to support Thame in becoming a cleaner, greener town — all contributing towards the ambitions of the Thame Green Living Plan.

The evening also marked the launch of the new Silver level of the awards, along with an exciting community-focused version open to local community groups and voluntary organisations.

Whether you’re a business, a volunteer group or a community organisation, now is the perfect time to get involved. Join this year’s cohort and be part of the collective effort to make Thame an even better place to live and work. Find out more and sign up today.

Tales of the River Thame

A Community Story-Sharing Morning

River Thame Conservation Trust is partnering with Thame Senior Friendship Centre to host a relaxed and welcoming morning celebrating memories of the River Thame and its tributaries.

We are particularly keen to hear stories from years gone by, but recent memories and reflections are equally welcome. You are welcome to share a story, bring along old or recent photographs, or simply come to listen and enjoy hearing from others.

With your permission, RTCT will record and collect stories to help celebrate the river’s heritage and the community’s connection to it. There will also be an opportunity to learn more about the Trust’s conservation work across the catchment.

CarClimatePledge.org – celebrating the driving of smaller cars

Driving harms the environment, costs a lot, endangers child safety, and deprives us of the health benefits of walking. Still, modern life - with its edge-of-town housing, sprawling shopping centres and limited public transport - makes it hard for many of us to stop using our cars completely.

If we choose to a smaller car that meets our needs we can still do everything we did before, just in a smaller, more fuel efficient car. But social pressures make that choice difficult. In our society, the car we drive conveys hidden meanings about our ‘attitudes’ and ‘success’, so many of us struggle to picture ourselves behind the wheel of something smaller. We worry about how others will judge us. This tension—wanting to make a change but feeling unable to—leaves many people feeling uncomfortable and unhappy. To address this challenge, an Oxford behaviour change expert is launching CarClimatePledge.

CarClimatePledge overcomes this difficulty by explaining to friends and colleagues - in a socially acceptable way - that the driver has made a definite choice to drive a car that meets their needs. It uses attractive, highly visible window stickers to carry the message. The accent is on climate concern, but many people will display them for other reasons, such as subtly pointing out the parking issues with wide SUVs in towns.

There is an arrow-shaped side window sticker and a larger rear window version. Both can be purchased through the carclimatepledge.org website. Also on Instagram, BlueSky and X.

Thame business named in UK’s Green Growth 100

ASM Auto Recycling Ltd has been selected as part of the Green Growth 100, an initiative launched by Small Business Britain in partnership with BT to spotlight small businesses successfully using sustainability as a core driver of growth.

The Green Growth 100 champions one hundred small businesses across the UK that are embedding sustainable practices into their operations - from cutting waste and energy use to rethinking supply chains, attracting new customers, and strengthening long-term resilience.

Established over 40 years ago, ASM Auto Recycling has been led by Paul McDonagh, Managing Director, who has placed sustainability at the core of the business. By transforming ESG insights into action, from cutting emissions and optimising solar usage to embedding sustainable procurement and eliminating waste, ASM has shown how measurable environmental progress can directly fuel commercial growth, operational resilience, and stronger community partnerships.

On being named in the Green Growth 100, Annabel Nicholls, Environmental & Sustainability Coordinator said: “It’s really exciting to be recognised in a national award and it’s an honour to be in the Green Growth 100 class of 2026”.

Michelle Ovens CBE, CEO and Founder of Small Business Britain, said: “The Green Growth 100 celebrates the small businesses that are showing sustainability and growth go hand in hand. These businesses are not only reducing their environmental impact, but also strengthening their operations, engaging customers, and building more resilient business models. ASM Auto Recycling is a brilliant example of how sustainability can fuel long-term success”.

This Green Growth 100 follows the work of the Willow Review, an independent, Government-backed review into the financial benefits of sustainability, which was co-chaired by Small Business Britain with BT sitting as a Steering Board member. The Willow Review published its landmark recommendations last summer, outlining a roadmap to unlock the vast financial opportunities of sustainability for Britain’s 5.6 million small businesses.

Chris Sims, Chief Commercial Officer, UK Business, at BT, added:

“The businesses in the Green Growth 100 are setting the benchmark for how sustainability can unlock innovation and commercial opportunity. It’s inspiring to see how small businesses across the UK are turning greener practices into real business growth. We’re proud to support this initiative and congratulate ASM Auto Recycling on being recognised”.

As a business featured on the Green Growth 100 ASM Auto Recycling will also be in the running for the Green Growth Awards - hosted by BT on 12 March 2026 - which will see two standout businesses from the line-up awarded a £5,000 grant to help them to scale their sustainability ambitions and continue driving positive change.

Water-Wise: Growing for climate resilience

Tuesday 10th March, 12-1pm, Online

Book here

How can what we grow help us respond to drought, flooding, and water scarcity? And how can individual action scale up to community impact and policy change?

This event explores climate-resilient growing through the lens of water. We’ll cover mud gardens and rain gardens; building healthy, water-retaining soils; and choosing plants that withstand both extremely dry and extremely wet conditions. We’ll move from the practical to the big picture, connecting hands-on growing tips with the wider systems that shape our landscapes and communities.

Would you like to help shape the future of water efficiency in the UK?

Waterwise are actively seeking Trustees from a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives and identities to help lead their work.

Their Trustees play a vital role in making sure that Waterwise achieves its mission - to lead and inspire change so that water is never wasted (in the UK).
