Dances of Universal Peace and Devotional Singing
with Karim and Susanne

Dear friends,

Our inspirational quote this month is from Paramhansa Yogananda in his book "In the Sanctury of the Soul" and is entitled "The more you concentrate on externals, the less happy you will be":

"The mule that carries a bag of gold on its back doesn't know the value of the load. Likewise we are so absorbed in toting the burden of life, hoping for some happiness at the end of the trail, that we do not realise that we carry within us the supreme and everlasting bliss of the soul. Because we look for happiness in "things" we forget that we already posses a wealth of happiness within".

We continue to be grateful for the positive energy that is created when we come together to share spiritual practice and community.

We hope to see you at some of this months events.
The full details of each are in separate sections below the summary.

Sarida writes: This May will be our 28th retreat at Kinnersley Castle. From that first year when our theme was ’The River of Life', all our retreats have been blessed by this very special Norman-Elizabethan building: its beauty, nature, depth, silence: a place of communion. This year the River of Life has a special poignancy as we have just learnt that on 26th March, our hostess for all these years, Kate Garratt-Adams, moved through the veil and is in the realm of eternal Light and Love. Kate’s children are supporting our retreat, as we embrace it to honour this very special person: Kate, thank you, we love you!

Wed 4th March 7.30 - 9.30 pm

A life-affirming online evening of chants,
body prayer and meditation
With Karim Hadden and Friends

Our theme is:
DRINK WITH THE BELOVED

Allaudin Ottinger’s song ‘Drink with the Beloved’ reminds us that ‘you can’t escape this birth and death’ and suggests that the answer is to ‘Drink with the Beloved’.  Sometimes life can feel turbulent and overwhelming and yet the Sufi teachings remind us that God is closer to us than our jugular vein. In this evening through our usual mix of chant, dance and embodied spiritual practice we will remind ourselves of the joy and nearness of divine connections and by affirming and sharing this together seek to bring it more fully alive in our lives and relationships.
Alan will be taking a break for this edition and Karim will be taking the opportunity to involve others in contributing to the evening.

Karim Hadden is a highly experienced leader of devotional singing and Dances of Universal Peace. He has followed the path of Universal Sufism for many years and also works as a Craniosacral therapist.

The group is run on Zoom. For bookings or enquiries, contact Karim [email protected]

Guided by Sarida Brown and Karim Hadden
in Kinnersley Castle, Herefordshire

‘To attain peace, what one has to do is to seek that rhythm which is

in the depth of our being.’ ~ Hazrat Inayat Khan

How can we integrate our inner spiritual journey while living with the challenges of our outer world? In this retreat we will focus on our vision for healing ourselves and healing our world, for finding out how to make unity, harmony and peace a living reality.

In the mystic 'anatomy' peace lives in the depth of the heart. We will share the journey of unveiling the power of the heart and its role in a way which is also unique for each of us. We will especially invoke the heart’s creative capacity. The Sufi tradition is called 'the path of the heart' and we will call on the power and wisdom of this dimension of spiritual life,  joining together to incarnate our soul’s vision of unity and peace.

A retreat is special time for freeing ourselves of daily pressures and habits. Using breath, awareness, sound, simple sitting, chanting and movement, we come into resonance with our natural rhythm, moving into meditation and opening of awareness – also practising and walking in the castle grounds. In the evenings we will share Dances of Universal Peace with Karim, and the zikr ritual. Kinnersley Castle is a unique setting and offers a restful and delightful atmosphere to enhance our retreat.

Sarida has been a student of meditation and guiding retreats and courses in the Sufi Order / Inayatiyya since 1979, and brought Sufi healing to Europe. She founded and for 20 years edited Caduceus Journal, integrating traditional and scientific medicines and existential issues. She has worked in psychotherapy, and focused on honouring the union of feminine and masculine with Marion Woodman.
