Festive wishes from Chickpea!

Welcome to our final newsletter of the year.

It’s been a busy year, and continues to be so with our two new arrivals, Luke and Luna. Read on for their story and to meet some of the other cats we’ve helped during 2025, all thanks to your support.

Welcome Luke and Luna!

In early December, two of our Cat Guardians looking after a colony of 25 cats in Pagos alerted us to two young kittens in poor condition, who had appeared in the colony. Young kittens at this time of year are particularly vulnerable and their chances of survival out on the streets, in cold, wet weather, are pretty low, particularly if they are already sickly and malnourished. So we stepped in and welcomed them for a temporary stay at Syros Cats. Click below for their story so far:

November 2025 TNR round-up

We had a very successful November, with a total of 46 males and 25 females sterilised. Of these, 35 were paid for by Syros Cats, 32 by the demos and 4 by private donation. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to our campaign and most especially to our volunteers whose energy, patience, staying power and commitment to the cause is truly amazing. But it’s not over yet! Our success in 2025 has given us the boost we needed to carry on our TNR work into 2026 and beyond.

No more babies for Whitney!

It goes without saying that we always check the health of every cat we catch for sterilisation. In Whitney’s case, it became all too evident that she was actually too sick to be sterilised, so we brought her to Syros Cats for a course of antibiotics and anti-parasite treatment. This, combined with good food and plenty of rest, ensured that Whitney gained weight and was soon healthy enough to be sterilised. She’s not keen on being around humans so after recovery, she was released back to her colony where she will now live a healthier life, free from the burden of continual pregnancies. If you’d like to help our winter TNR campaign, please donate below!

Serena: Cat of the Year!

A message from our volunteer, Susan, and her prize-winning housemate, the delightful Serena:

This summer, the Humanimal Trust ran a fund-raising virtual pet show, asking for nominations in a variety of categories. The charity, founded by 'Super Vet', Professor Noel Fitzpatrick, drives collaboration between doctors, vets and researchers so that all humans and animals benefit from equal and sustainable medical progress, but not at the expense of an animal’s life. Many worldwide entries to the competition were received, including a large number from Syros Cats and their supporters! We were delighted when our Serena won the 'Best Cat' award. Unfortunately, her prize has fallen foul of the postal system, but our feline diva assures us that it’s the taking part that counts, and success won’t go to her head…much.

It’s all about the cats!

The end of the year seems a good time to introduce you to some of the cats we’ve helped over the last 12 months, to remind us what it’s all about. It’s thanks to you, our supporters, that we are able to give the likes of Taz, Bertie, Peanut, Zachos, Splash, Messi, Puma, Nike and Fila the love, treatment and care they deserve.
