And Hello 2026

Riders at our Wednesday hunt got some up-close and personal time with a bald eagle that was visiting Stavers' pond. Our pack of girls did their best following the drag lines, but they haven't had as much experience with it as the boys have. We still enjoyed some runs and the lovely weather, and the girls enjoyed rolling in and carrying around the "fox" once they found it.

Unfortunately, ground conditions won't be suitable for hunting tomorrow, so we have canceled the hunt.

Coming Up...

100th event planning session—This Sunday we will be hosting a Zoom call to discuss planning for the events related to the 100th celebration. All members are encouraged to join. We will need considerable support to make this happen! Meeting details:

Our next hunt is Wednesday with Mission Valley. Due to the extended antlerless season, they have moved this hunt to their Cass County fixture located at 4105 E. 253rd

Cleveland, MO 64734.

At the end of this month, there are two events we encourage members to attend/join. One is the FLH demo at EquiFest, which will take place on Friday the 23rd. Details on the exact format of the demo will be available soon.

The other is a charity show put on by former FLH juniors. Details are below.

Woods On the Hunt is a new charity show created to highlight the origins of fox hunting while supporting the hunts that keep this tradition alive. Proceeds will directly benefit the Fort Leavenworth Hunt and Ozark Highland Hounds, helping care for their hounds and strengthen their communities.

Committee Updates

Fixture Development

Efforts to secure access to larger areas of land near Easton/Winchester continue. We are also exploring a potential fixture of 600 acres near Dearborn, MO. Masters and members who provided the contact rode the area on Sunday and will be following up with the landowners.

Keep in mind we have a landing page with information for landowners that gives enough details to help potential landowners decide if they're willing to entertain conversations about permitting access to their land. View the page here.

Activities and Membership/Recruitment

Thank you to Sarah Day for stepping up to head the membership/recruitment committee. Remember—the more members we have, the less likely we'll have to raise dues significantly!

EQUIFEST: FLH will be doing a demonstration at EquiFest on January 23rd. This is a great opportunity to promote our sport!

100th Activities: MVH Jim Fain will act as coordinator for our 100th celebration in March. This milestone celebration will require all the help we can muster. Watch for an invitation to an initial planning call soon.

Receive Recognition for FLH Volunteerism

As FLH is part of the Fort Leavenworth Family, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (FMWR) program, members of the Fort Leavenworth Hunt can record and receive recognition from Fort Leavenworth for volunteer hours spent supporting the hunt. Recording volunteer hours is an individual choice and not a requirement, but is strongly supported by the FLH Masters. Recording hours both allows for individual recognition by Fort Leavenworth FMWR and for Fort Leavenworth leadership to understand the significant time contributed by our members to make FLH successful as an organization. The guide to the right will take you through the process of registering, applying for positions, and recording your hours. Please contact Jessica Kudzia with any questions.
