Spring Term 2026

Hungry for

progress in 2026

A reminder to press forward in the race of faith

Dear Friends,

As the students returned for the first lectures of 2026, we began with a reflection on the fourth Beatitude: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. It is a reminder that the Christian believer is not to be complacent, but to press forward in the race of faith. We rejoice that we are justified by faith, and that the righteousness of Christ is imputed to us. But we want to be transformed more and more into the likeness of Christ. We want to grow in the knowledge and love of God. We want to be good and faithful servants, used for His glory. And we are encouraged by the promise that those who hunger and thirst will be satisfied. We know the help of the Holy Spirit, and anticipate the day when we will see the Lord and be like Him.

We give thanks for recent initiatives at the Seminary: the successful launch of the Relay course, and the Centre for Biblical Ethics. This term we have a number of Visit Mornings when prospective students will consider studying here from September. Please pray with us specifically for more residential students.

We are thankful for your faithful support, and fellowship in the Gospel.

My name is Mathew. I’m married to Harang, and we have a daughter, Eirianedd. This summer we moved to Harpenden, where I’ve just begun serving at ChristChurch Harpenden as a Minister-in-Training alongside part-time study in my first year at London Seminary. I’m only just beginning, but I’m grateful for the opportunity to come alongside people pastorally and to learn from those who have served much longer than I have.

I grew up in a home where the Lord was honoured, but as a teenager I didn’t want to know him. I thought God was distant and irrelevant. At 15, the Lord graciously intervened at an EMW camp. He showed me my sin, that I couldn’t save myself, and that I needed Christ, who had already done everything at the cross to rescue me. By his grace, he gave me faith in him.

Since then, the Lord has deepened my conviction that I’m not my own, but belong to him. I began to sense a call to ministry and explored this through mission trips, a church internship, and many conversations with the leadership at Emmanuel Evangelical Church, Chippenham, who in God’s providence sent me here to Harpenden.

My hope at Seminary is to be stretched and shaped by God’s Word — to grow in my understanding of Scripture, to learn the biblical languages, and to keep asking many questions of my lecturers so I can take it all in and be better equipped to serve His people. Above all, I long to see more of my God, who loved us and chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world. To him belongs all the praise and the glory.

Please pray that I’d grow in holiness, humility and love for Christ, and that the Lord would use this time of training to equip me to serve his people faithfully for years to come.

Challenge 50 – celebrating 50 years of Pastors training Pastors

As London Seminary celebrates 50 years of training, Challenge 50 aims to fund 50 students on the Pastoral Training Course who otherwise would not receive rigorous, Christ-centred training.

The need for financial support is greater than ever, especially among those from diaspora communities. If you want to see more godly men trained to correctly handle God's word, do prayerfully consider giving towards this special fund.
