January 2026 Updates

Hello {{ firstname }},

Welcome to the first newsletter of the new year. We hope you all had a lovely December and here's wishing you a happy 2026.

URGENT – The WBR Spring Fayre need YOU!

Image description

We are thrilled to announce the date for the next Spring Fayre as Sunday 10th May 2026

The official footfall figures for last year's Spring Fayre were a staggering 27,825 people!! This is an incredible number of people who came out to enjoy this much-loved community event.

BUT WE NOW NEED YOUR HELP!

This year we are facing a greatest challenge yet to deliver the event. With increased costs and funding streams constrained we need to reach deeper and ask for your financial support. Without this support the Spring Fayre will not go ahead this year.

The Fayre was originally borne from the Mayor of London's High Street regeneration initiative and now budgets and grants are severely limited. While the council supports the event logistically, they cannot provide any funding this year. Last's year's event cost nearly £42,000 to deliver. This year we will need to raise closer to £50,000.

This is a non-profit event and the WBRA all work voluntarily for months to bring this event to life, often to our own individual financial loss. So, we are asking for your help!

If you, or anyone you know, may be interested in getting their brand in front of 27,000+ people, please share this information!

Your sponsorship is an incredible way to show that you helped make this incredible community event possible!

Starting from as little as £350 there are numerous ways you can support the Fayre. Please have a look at our Sponsorship Pack and Pricing guide here:

Residents can help too!

If you live in the area and would like show your support we have various options for you to contribute, starting from as little as £100.

Road Updates

The council remains in discussion with TfL regarding the planned works to redefine the Wandsworth Bridge Road, including new raised crossings and pavement buildouts, along its length. We’ve been reassured by H&F Council that they remain committed to seeing the project delivered.

Every week the works are delayed, residents and visitors continue to experience unsafe traffic speeds. Cars, HGVs and buses frequently exceed the 20mph limit when the road is clear, creating risk for those walking or cycling along the route. We’ve seen how the presence of parklets can help calm traffic and reduce accidents. According to CrashMapUK.co.uk, there were 27 reported incidents on WBR in 2024. Only one was near a parklet, with the majority being at junctions like Hugon, Clancarty and New King's Road.

We have also observed that since one Parklet was removed near Rycroft, speeding and noise have noticeably increased. Similar patterns occur on sections of the road without parklets, such as between Woolneigh Street and Clancarty Road.

The proposed raised crossings and pavement buildouts are designed to support safer speeds for everyone, without affecting services operating within the legal 20mph limit. These measures have proved effective in many other parts of London, improving safety and accessibility without adding journey delays.

We’ll continue to support the council’s efforts to prioritise road safety and help make Wandsworth Bridge Road a safer, more welcoming place for the whole community, not just a commuter through-route.

Support Your Local Shops

The Wandsworth Bridge Road’s independent shops are facing serious challenges: rising costs, supply issues, more online shopping and, too often, low awareness among local residents. They rely on support from the local community to survive and thrive.

They need your support.

As Kenrick, of Kenrick's Speak Easy & Wine Merchants put it:

“If every resident spent just £15 a week, or even £30 a month locally, the high street would look and feel completely different.”

If these shops close, the character, appeal and usefulness of our high street will vanish with them.

Use it or Lose it

Our local independent businesses are what keep Wandsworth Bridge Road vibrant and alive: they provide everyday essentials, friendly faces and a sense of place you simply do not get from online shopping.

A busy high street is also a safer high street. Well-used shops and bustling pavements help to deter crime and anti‑social behaviour, making the area more welcoming for everyone who lives, works and visits here.

You can make a real difference.

By choosing to spend just £5 a week in local shops and businesses, instead of online with large multinationals, residents across the UK could collectively return billions of pounds to their towns and high streets (source: Totally Locally’s “£5 Concept”).
