Spring is around the corner, and I think we’re all hoping it brings some much-wished-for summery vibes too!
February has been wonderful, with our annual local gem, Party in the Park at Wals – immense gratitude to the Festival of the Plain committee for such a fantastic day out. And a special shoutout to St John for your amazing face painting that brought so many smiles!
If you joined in the Round the Rocks hike, bike, or run, what a treat it was to take in those breathtaking views of Saddle Hill, Rock and Pillars, and the Strath Taieri countryside – all thanks to the Rotary Club of Taieri, John & Stephanie Stevenson, and Rocklands Station.
March is shaping up to be just as exciting, with plenty of community events to enjoy: This Sunday, 1 March, don’t miss the Weetbix Tryathlon at Taieri College. And thanks to the Rotary Club of Mosgiel, there’s a rare opportunity to climb Saddle Hill – a chance to connect with our local mountain | maunga and enjoy stunning views. Proceeds will support K9 Medical Detection Dogs, a cause that warms the heart.
Here at Taieri Network, we’re thrilled to welcome Alia Askar to the team as an intern for the next 10 weeks, as part of her Bachelor of Applied Management studies. Alia is a local Mosgiel resident, originally from Syria, and we’re excited to work together to make a positive impact in our community. Do pop in to say hello and welcome Alia to the role!
We’re also gearing up for Taieri’s 4th Annual Rangatahi Youth Hui on 9 April at the Taieri Bowling Club. This event grew from our first community consultation in 2022, where youth told us they wanted more to do locally. If you’re in Years 7–10 and live or go to school on the Taieri, this fun day of bands, food, and an Amazing-Race-style event is for you! More info below. Parents, be sure to complete registrations so your young person can join the adventure.
Finally, a huge thank you to all community members who have been stopping by the office with your ideas, and in general just spreading good vibes about working together to strengthen our community even more. Your creativity and energy keep Mosgiel-Taieri thriving – keep those ideas coming! Enjoy March, and may it bring bright days, joyful moments, and plenty of opportunities to connect, celebrate, and make memories with your whānau and community!

Our local community member Margaret Larsen is seeking more volunteers to help knit warm items for those in need in Eastern Europe. Winter temperatures in parts of Eastern Europe can drop as low as -25°C, and many children, families, and elderly people have very little to keep them warm during these harsh conditions. Through Operation Cover-Up, two 40-foot shipping containers filled with donations from across New Zealand are sent at a time — packed full of warmth, comfort, hope, and love.
How You Can Get Involved There are several ways to help: 🧶 Knit blankets, hats, scarves, mittens, gloves, slippers, or socks 🧵 Donate wool 📦 Donate other needed items 💛 Make a monetary donation
To get involved, contact Margaret Larsen on 027 206 6023. Every stitch makes a difference. Together, we can help wrap vulnerable families in warmth this winter. |

Love to sing? Dunedin Harmony Chorus is welcoming new members!
This friendly, supportive group sings a cappella four-part harmony in the barbershop style and loves sharing music with the community. Whether you’re an experienced singer or simply enjoy lifting your voice with others, you’ll be warmly welcomed. No formal training is required — just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
Joining a chorus is a wonderful way to build confidence, make new friends, and be part of something uplifting and fun.
If you’re curious, why not go along to a rehearsal and give it a try? New members are always welcome! 🎵 |
