Get Out & Get Active Grant 2026 Cycle is Open!

A Note from the President

As we begin a new year at the ADI, I’m reminded of something simple but powerful: movement changes how people feel, connect, and heal.

For many people living with anxiety, depression, or isolation, physical activity can be one of the most accessible ways to support mental well-being. Whether it’s walking with a friend, joining a community program, or rediscovering the joy of being active, movement can open doors that other approaches sometimes cannot.

That belief continues to guide our work. The ADI focuses on supporting community organizations that use physical activity to improve mental health and strengthen connection. Through our grants and educational efforts, we aim to help more communities integrate movement into everyday mental-health support.

This year represents an important step forward as we rebuild momentum and prepare for the next cycle of community grants. Thank you for being part of this mission and for helping expand access to movement-based mental-health solutions.

Movement & Mental Health

Why Physical Activity Should Be Part of the Mental Health Conversation

Including movement in the mental health conversation isn’t about replacing existing supports or oversimplifying complex challenges. It’s about broadening the conversation so more people can find options that feel accessible and relevant to their lives.

Why ‘Something Is Better Than Nothing’ for Mental Health

When it comes to movement and mental health, many people get stuck in an all‑or‑nothing mindset. If you can’t do enough, do it consistently, or do it the ‘right’ way, it can feel easier to do nothing at all.

You Don’t Need a Gym: How Everyday Movement Improves Mood

For many people, the idea of improving mental health through physical activity comes with built‑in barriers: gym memberships, equipment, special clothes, or the feeling that you have to set aside large blocks of time. Those assumptions can make movement feel inaccessible before you even begin.

A Very Happy Birthday To The ADI

On March 24, 2026, the ADI marks 11 years since its founding.

In 2015, Josh Rothman, Scott Hendrickson, and Matthew Miller came together to formally launch the organization after months of planning and discussion. What began as a small, community-focused effort centered on activity groups has steadily grown into a broader initiative supporting education, advocacy, and now grantmaking. Over the years, that growth has been made possible by the commitment of board members, volunteers, and supporters who have helped shape the ADI’s direction and expand its reach. Today, the ADI continues to focus on advancing the role of physical activity in supporting mental health. As we reflect on the past 11 years, we remain focused on building the next chapter with greater clarity, reach, and impact.    Click Here to Find Out More ➔

The 2026 Grant Cycle Has Begun

We have launched our 2026 grant cycle and there have been some changes. This year we are starting with a concept note phase to hear more about some of the great ideas out there without collecting full grant proposals. We will then be inviting a small number of organizations that have proposed ideas that align best with our organization and mission to develop a full grant proposal. Click Here to Find Out More ➔
