Your Monthly Creative Exercise

May:

Journey back to that special place

By Gemma Skyers

Image description

Close your eyes, think of a place you would like to re-visit. This could be a holiday destination or somewhere local you would like to go back to, or perhaps a special moment in life that made you happy. Keep your eyes closed and let’s keep enhancing this memory.

• What can you visualise?

• What is the weather like?

• What sounds can you hear?

• Is there any music?

• Is there anyone special there with you?

• What else can you remember from that moment?

• Any interesting smells in the air?

• Did you eat or drink anything at the time?

• Were you wearing anything special?

Let’s put these memories on paper. Paint or sketch what you saw, it could be a landscape or a collection of objects. Include some words or short sentences about that special place.

About our Monthly Creative Prompts

These creative exercises were thoughtfully designed by our very own Art4Space staff and are practiced daily at our Community Arts Centre. Our tutors want to share them with you to encourage creative holistic wellness for everyone.

Our exercises are designed to be simple and can be done anywhere whether you’re at home, at your place of work, in the park, on a train etc.

You’ll only need some basic art materials, and you could keep a sketchbook or notebook specifically for your creative exercises to help keep them together and easily accessible.

We hope that these exercises will encourage self-expression and help stimulate your creative mind. So, sit back, relax, don’t overthink it and let your creative responses take you away…
