When Madison and I first met it started with an organic conversation in person, which led to us both discussing what we did professionally. Madison graduated from college in 2020 and had been primarily working in roles related to retirement and finance since. As of when we met, he was actively in the job search while working remotely full-time and taking all the necessary steps to try to find a new job that fit his current values. Even still, with the nature of the job market, he was hitting walls with a lack of employer responses and getting frustrated in the process.
We met for one session where we reviewed his resume and discussed strategies in the process, and what stood out to him most was the guidance to “prioritize quality over quantity” when it comes to roles of consideration and applying to them. He quickly made some revisions to his resume and continued to pursue roles of interest with intentionality.
Madison shared, “It helped to have a second person to connect with during a time when some people might feel discouraged or hopeless. It helped to meet and talk over things and have another resource since it can be a process.”
Within some time Madison was being considered for more than one position of interest! Recently he accepted a new job as a Retirement Plan Specialist, where he is able to work from the office a couple days a week and have more client focused responsibilities, which were priorities in finding the right fit. He shared what helped him was “being genuine and preparing good questions for the interview, showing some eagerness, and during the application process preparing well-written cover letters and sending your resume directly when possible.”
Although the job search can be discouraging at times, Madison thought it was just as important to “remind people it is not them, it's the job market” when the process takes time. Please join me in celebrating all of Madison’s hard work and his new position!
“I enjoyed working with Abbie as she is knowledgeable and understanding. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to make a change.” - Madison
