Sandra Villani's Clowning Workshop on June 9th! |

Sandra says: "This is an introductory clowning masterclass; with the use of games, movement, sound, silence, stillness and so much more. In this workshop we will explore your clown within!
The aim is to conjure a magical mini-show from simply being.
For this masterclass, no clowning or comedy experience is necessary, just a willingness to be open to the moment.
It’s probably a good idea to wear comfy clothes and shoes, so you can move around freely.
I came to clowning through the tutelage of a wonderful clown, Didier Dantois at his Sacred Art of Clowning school. Since then I have clowned around from time to time.
Come and play!”

You're Having a Laugh,
A Comedy Workshop Led by Jo Ostrowska, July 14th |

Are you a bit of a show-off? This informal workshop will give you chance to have a go at stand-up in front of a friendly audience.
Alternatively you may want to hone your skills and develop your style. Jo will share her insights and feedback on what makes a great stand-up routine and how to prepare for your first gig.
Will we discover Streatham’s next new stand-up talent?
Jo Ostrowska is returning to STC’s Second Tuesday events by popular demand. She lives in Streatham and is an aspiring comic, director and writer. Jo has performed alongside the likes of Sara Pascoe, Arthur Smith and Jack Whitehall.
Although she is currently concentrating more on writing, her stand-up repertoire includes appearances at Edinburgh and several local stand-up comedy nights, including gigs at Clapham Comedy Club, The Railway and Streatham Festival.
Tuesday July 14th at 7.30 pm (doors open 7 pm). Members Free, others £5 at the door.

Twelfth Night Outdoors at the Rookery - Auditions June 11th and 15th |
|
Shipwrecked in an unfamiliar land, twins Viola and Sebastian both believe the other to be dead. When Viola disguises herself as a man, she quickly finds herself caught between the lovestruck duke, Orsino, and the object of his affections, the Countess Olivia… Full of love, music, mistaken identity, and a little bit of mischief, Twelfth Night has something for everyone.
This family-friendly production of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, directed by Lizzie Hartree & Robin Bracken-Kemish, will be performed outdoors in the Rookery gardens, from the 21st to the 23rd of August (dates to be confirmed). |

How to audition: COME to one of these dates: 11th June, 7 for 7.30pm 15th June, 7 for 7.30pm
Alternatively, SUBMIT A SELF-TAPE (1-2 mins of Shakespeare, or of the specific character you’re auditioning for) by the 14th June.
If cast, you will need to be either a current STC member or join STC at a cost of £10 for the year. Rehearsals will start end of June, beginning of July.

Viola: Young woman who disguises herself as a man (Cesario). Works for, and falls in love with, Orsino. Olivia: Countess in mourning for her brother’s death. Falls in love with Cesario. Orsino: Lovestruck Duke, head over heels for Olivia, but finds himself getting closer to his new servant, Cesario. Sir Toby Belch: Olivia’s drunkard uncle. Friends with Sir Andrew and Maria, teams up with them to prank Malvolio. Feste: Fool/entertainer. Wanders between Orsino’s palace and Olivia’s. Malvolio: Olivia’s steward. Uptight and strict, he is the object of a prank played on him by Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, and Maria. Maria: Olivia’s gentlewoman. Comes up with the idea to prank Malvolio. Sir Andrew Aguecheek: A foolish knight. Friends with Sir Toby, wishes to court Olivia. Sebastian: Viola’s twin brother, who survives the shipwreck when rescued by Antonio. Antonio: Former enemy of Orsino, risks great danger in following Sebastian there. Valentine: Servant of Orsino. Captain: Rescues Viola from shipwreck, helps her disguise herself. Priest/Servant/Other: Various small roles |

Much Fun Was Had, Discovering the Waste Land |
|
The only thing I've ever really known about T.S. Eliot's The Waste Land is it's first line: April is the cruellest month. That never inspired me to investigate further, so it's fair to say that our voyage of exploration was a revelation to me. I never knew there was so much in it! Not just one poem, The Waste Land is an entwined maze of poems, with a myriad of cultural references from the denizens of a London pub refusing to be rushed, even though the landlord has called Time, to Queen Elizabeth I and the Earl of Essex being rowed down the Thames to music inspired by Wagner's Rhine maidens! A big thank you to Yasmin Smith and Mike Jennet for opening our eyes and ears.
If our exploration has inspired you to investigate further, in mid-June Wilton's Music Hall is presenting The Waste Land, an evening exploring this poem and also T.S. Eliot's other well-known poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. |

STC Writers' Group Meeting on June 25th |

The second meeting of the Writers' Group went very well and the next meeting is on Thursday June 25th. Anybody interested in any form of writing, come along and share your work with other budding and aspiring writers.

Our August event is now confirmed as our Annual General Meeting, followed by a social. More information is available on our website.
In November, we plan to read Dracula by Bram Stoker, adapted for the stage by Jane Thornton and John Godber.
More information will follow on each event as we get nearer the time. |

We have three slots for possible shows this year. We are looking at roughly Spring/Summer, early Autumn and Christmas.
