Summer Refreshers on the Farm
June rolled in with long light and warm breezes, and the whole farm shifted with it. The pastures are deep green, the shade trees are doing their best work, and the goats have settled into their summer routines. It's a lot of grazing, a lot of napping, and a lot of reminding me when they think dinner should be served.
Almost all of the spring babies have headed to their new homes, and the little ones staying here are learning the ropes with the adult herds. This stretch between spring chaos and midsummer heat is one of my favorites. Everything feels steady and unhurried in the best way.
The poultry barn has settled into its early summer pace. The spring babies are feathering out, the brooders are finally quieting down, and the last of the hatching eggs are about to ship out by the end of the month. It is that brief window where everyone is growing well, eating constantly, and discovering that the world is bigger than the brooder walls. It's a good kind of busy, the kind that feels predictable after the rush of spring.
