Author Update: June 2026

New Releases

Summer 2026 is important in my book world…Two of my titles are being released in new editions. Both books have been widely acclaimed and it’s terrific to see these new editions available.

Route 66 Still Kicks Centennial Edition

Route 66 turns 100 years old! Skyhorse Publishing/New York has announced this special “Centennial Edition” of Route 66 Still Kicks; Driving America’s Main Street in a refreshed, updated paperback to celebrate Route 66, 1926 – 2026. Here’s a look at the new cover. Publication date is July 14, and it's available for pre-order. The book is distributed internationally by Simon & Schuster along with some of my other books, including Full Moon Over Noah’s Ark: An Odyssey to Mount Ararat & Beyond, and Walking With Ghosts in Papua New Guinea: Crossing the Kokoda Trail in Last Wild Place on Earth.

Praise for Route 66 Still Kicks

“The most impressive account of a road trip I have ever read."

— Paul Taylor, publisher of Route 66 Magazine

“A middle-age Woodstock in motion, an encounter with an America that isn’t as lost as we think…in the end Antonson proves that Route 66 indeed still kicks — as does America”

— Keith Bellows, editor in chief, National Geographic Traveler

“This is America’s favourite highway talking, and Antonson is a superb enabler — so sit back and relax as Route 66 gives up its legendary stories."

— Peter Greenberg, travel editor, CBS News

Train Beyond the Mountains just released in paperback

Greystone Books/Vancouver has enjoyed (as have I) really nice sales and reviews for Train Beyond the Mountains in its hard cover format. Now they’re releasing the book in paperback, aiming for an expanded market appeal through distribution in racks in less common book outlets, as well as continuing to focus on the importance of traditional bookstore outlets.

Praise for Train Beyond the Mountains

“An enthralling portrait of a nostalgia-tinged pilgrimage.”

— Kirkus

“Antonson has set out on a literary train ride that has been largely left at the station by other railway writers— bridging the gap between mostly forgotten railway history and contemporary train-riding reality.”

— Barrie Sanford, author of McCulloch’s Wonder

“[A] Story of imagination, ingenuity, courage, and stamina…aboard one of the great trains of the world… told by a great Canadian adventurer.”

— Rick Cluff, award-winning CBC Radio host

AI is changing how we perceive so much of our world, or how others perceive us as individuals. An old friend – and somewhat legendary in the world of tourism – Bob Tuss recently took up the new tools for this caricature, which caught me by surprise

There are a lot of fun images related to the importance of books, and here’s one that caught my attention as worth sharing. It's the facade of the Kansas City Public Library's Central Library branch and the adjacent parking garage. You can read about it here.
