LESS LOOKING BACK, MORE LIVING IN THE NOW!

This is a continual lesson for me: ‘less looking back, more living in the now’.

A long time ago, early in our married life my husband fell into a desperate battle to live, as he had heart failure. After a long four years, he received the gift of life, a heart transplant at the age of 30.

We all have our own stories of life's ups and downs that have affected us in one way or another, and it can be easy to keep looking back at them and dwelling on them, rather than looking forward. For me personally this is a challenge.

Some people have a positive experience of school, others are left carrying trauma; something said to you years ago can stay with you throughout your life. I was speaking to a lady in her 60s recently who told me she was still carrying something from her school days.

At Be Me our passion is to get young people to think positively about themselves and not dwell on their negative experiences. In this way they can build their lives with confidence, learning to navigate negative influences and enjoy  ‘More living in the now’.

Positive Results

I am so proud of my team, as our results consistently show the improvement in our young people's self-esteem through the course; we are proud to be part of these young people’s journey

Support for Year 7's

We are launching our brand new Heroes course for Year 7s struggling with transition into secondary school. We are trialing this through Reigate and Therfield secondary schools in Surrey, having worked with some of their feeder schools in July.

Non Attenders

Sadly, many young people are struggling to attend school, but we are hopeful to build their confidence back up so they can find their resilience. We have several ideas:

Naomi and Louise have been running a great programme engaging with young people who are struggling to attend school. Taking the hardest session of the school week, 9am Monday morning, we are running sessions  at the Priory school in Dorking to build confidence and encourage attendance, and it’s been going really well.Excitingly, this is contagious and Rhiannon is hoping planning to set up a similar course at The Beacon.

Working with boys

It’s great to have Steve working regularly with us now; he is bringing a new dynamic to our boys' work and developing new resources to support their needs.

Inspire Conference

Hannah is speaking at a women's conference- Inspire- in Garstang, Lancashire, this month, sharing about our work with her usual enthusiasm.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We love our wider community; maybe your daughter or son has been on a Be Me course, or is doing it now.  Or maybe your own school experience means that you value the work that we are doing  to help young people ‘live in the now’ .

Look out for our Christmas appeal this year….We are hoping to have some fun!!!

Thank you for supporting the work we do. We’re excited for all that the rest of the year holds.

Blessings
Lu and The Be Me Team
