In The Fold:

September Soul

[ projects, ideas, people, music, reflection & radio ]

Image description

I think this is the month we really get into it. Perhaps I've always felt that this is really the season to be a butterfly...I'm welcoming another kind of pace. That has yet to be determined or discovered. Whatever you prefer, I wish you creativity, joy and ascension in your pursuits as we enter a new season!

August Awe:

  • Hosted a live episode of Sound Travels with the iconic, LAL, at Trust The Process' residency @ CONTXT. Broadcast date TBA. Stay tuned here.

Their forthcoming album, A Practice of Love, is out September 18.

  • Sonic Sancocho returned to Drom Taberna for a jam with Soukustek and David Ariza! We raised funds for earthquake relief in Colombia.

  • Great gigs including: a sweet night sharing tunes with my homie, the awesome DJ Mark Uncle, for my colleagues and friends, Empanadas Ilegales (check out their new album!), Macedo Winery patio hangs, a fun debut at Houndstooth with my pal & A1 selector, DJ Gramera, and Another Setting Radio's live series at culinary gem, Antylia.

  • Friends from out of town visited this summer: from Miami to Detroit, it is always a joy to reconnect with these special folks!

KIKU Listening Sessions: Trip Hop @ 915 Dupont - Info & Tickets
Tuesdays in September - two seatings: 6 pm & 8 pm | Presented by ON.RCRD

Talking about music is perhaps one of my favourite things to do in this life. To be invited to do this and share special albums with a room of keen ears and open minds in a communal setting is an honour and privilege.

I am thrilled to be co-curating/hosting the September edition of ON.RCRD's KIKU Listening Sessions at Rooms 915 Dupont. We're discussing the incomparable, layered, timeless arena that is Trip-Hop!

I'm helming three nights - September 8, 15 & 29 - would love to see you!

About the series:
KIKU means "to listen" in Japanese. Every Tuesday we slow down, gather in a room, and hear a record the way it was meant to be heard, with attention, context, and other people.

This September we're tracing trip hop across five records that built the genre in real time. Massive Attack's Protection. Portishead's Dummy. DJ Shadow's Endtroducing. Morcheeba's Big Calm. And Esthero's Breath From Another - a big one for Toronto, and an integral one for me.

September 1: Massive Attack, Protection (1994) - presented by Steve
September 8: Morcheeba, Big Calm (1998) - presented by Ola
September 15: DJ Shadow, Endtroducing (1996) - presented by Ola
September 22: Portishead, Dummy (1994) - presented by Gil
September 29: Esthero, Breath From Another (1998) - presented by Ola
