It’s been a busy few weeks at Taieri Network, with plenty happening across our communities!

A small change to our office hours: From now on, the Taieri Network office will be open Monday to Thursday, 9.30am–2.30pm. I’m also currently dealing with a voice injury, so I’ll be working a little differently over the next couple of weeks, with some reduced office hours while I focus on getting my voice back on track. I’ll share more information as things become clearer, and in the meantime, email or text is the best way to get in touch.

🎄 A Very Taieri Christmas is coming together! We’ve had a fantastic response from our local schools, with lots of excitement about getting involved, alongside youth and community performers. It’s shaping up to be a wonderful celebration of the talent and community spirit we have right here on the Taieri. If your community group would like to have a stall, we’d love to hear from you — get in touch!

Keep an eye on the A Very Taieri Christmas Facebook page for more updates as we get closer to Friday 4 December!

👋 We’re also looking for a Youth Advisory Panel Co-Coordinator. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working alongside young people and wants to help support the Taieri Youth Advisory Panel as it continues to grow. If you, or someone you know, might be a good fit, get in touch with me at [email protected] for more information.

There’s lots happening, and I’m really looking forward to seeing some of these ideas come to life over the coming months. 😊

Jean Bonner

Do you enjoy working alongside young people and want to help Taieri rangatahi have their voices heard?

The Taieri Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) is looking for a Volunteer Co-Coordinator to join our existing Coordinator and support our youth-led panel of young people aged 13–18.

YAP is “For Taieri youth, by Taieri youth” — giving young people opportunities to develop ideas, build confidence and have a say in their community.

This is a volunteer role of approximately 10 hours per month, with a great opportunity to gain experience in youth development, facilitation and leadership while supporting young people to take the lead.

👉 Interested or know someone who might be a great fit? Check out the full details on our Facebook page or get in touch with Taieri Network.

Got some things hiding in the garage that could use a new home? The Aotearoa Spring Garage Sale is happening nationwide on Saturday 17 and/or Sunday 18 October, encouraging neighbours to open their garages, homes and front yards for a good old-fashioned spring clean and community catch-up.

It’s a simple way to meet the people around you, keep useful things in circulation and have a bit of fun while you’re at it. Why not get your street involved and make a day of it?

Want to take part? Register your own garage sale and receive a free toolkit with tips and resources to help get you started.

Mosgiel-Taieri Community Patrol

Mosgiel-Taieri Community Patrol: Keeping an Eye Out Across the Taieri

For more than 15 years, the Mosgiel-Taieri Community Patrol has been helping keep our communities safer, with volunteers providing an extra set of eyes and ears for Police across the wider Taieri.

The Patrol covers a broad area including Brighton, Outram, Momona and Dunedin Airport, Waldronville, Fairfield, Green Island, Abbotsford and Mosgiel, with Dunedin also covered when required.

And they certainly keep busy. During 2025, the Patrol’s 26 volunteers completed 869 hours of patrols, travelled more than 9,300 kilometres and assisted Police with more than 620 incidents.

Volunteers patrol three regular four-hour shifts each week. They also provide patrols for local community activities and foot patrols around the Mosgiel business area. The Civil Defence-controlled Emergency Response Group can request their assistance during emergencies.

Patrollers also regularly visit retirement villages, schools, playgrounds, sports fields, supermarkets, car parks and industrial areas.

A new patrol vehicle

The Patrol has recently updated its vehicle with a new Mitsubishi Outlander, made possible through the Patrol’s own fundraising, generous donations from local individuals and businesses, and a substantial grant from Grassroots Trust.

The vehicle signwriting was generously provided by Downer New Zealand Ltd.

It is a great example of the local community getting behind the volunteers who give their time to support our communities.

Want to get involved?

The Mosgiel-Taieri Community Patrol is currently looking for new members. If you would like to contribute to a safer community and be part of a team making a practical difference across the Taieri, they would love to hear from you.
